Daniel joined Gilead Sciences, Inc. in August 2014 and is part of the Government Affairs and Policy, FOCUS Program.

The FOCUS program is the public health initiative of Gilead Sciences Inc. that enables access to prevention, testing and care for life-threatening diseases, including HIV, HCV, and HBV, with applicability to other disease states. FOCUS provides resources to healthcare organizations across the United States, Spain, and Portugal, to implement best practices for policy-driven screening, linkage to comprehensive prevention services, and linkage to care following national and international guidelines. FOCUS partners have closed the gap in health disparity and inequity for communities disproportionately impacted by high rates of morbidity, mortality, and late diagnosis of blood based-virus (BBV) diseases. Daniel currently oversees FOCUS in several states including Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma and previously in Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Florida.

Daniel brings senior-level leadership experience on a range of public health and healthcare issues and his knowledge includes significant work within the public, private and non-profit sectors. Daniel’s proficiency in HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis prevention, research, and care have been honed from three decades spent working at the federal, state, and local level to advance policies and programs that improve health outcomes for individuals and communities alike.

Daniel collaborates with external stakeholders and advocates to enhance understanding of HIV and Viral Hepatitis disease burden in the regions he oversees. He also collaborates with Gilead internal stakeholders, including the federal, state and policy government affairs teams as well as FOCUS workgroups, taskforces, and committees. He is also part of the FOCUS Operations, Planning and Training (OPT) team that develops, implements, and supports workflow efficiencies to improve impact and led the development of the FOCUS award/grant management on-line system development, implementation and currently oversees its management. Daniel is a member of all Gilead Employee Resource Groups (ERG) including GLOBE (Gilead Leadership Organization of Black Employees), Women at Gilead, Gileados (Gilead Latin Employees), GVet (Gilead Veterans Engagement Team), GAIN (Gilead Asian Interest Network) and is part of the leadership team for Pride Alliance (LGBTQIA+), where he co-leads the Communications and Business Impact pillars.
