May 18, 2012 Saturday, May 19 is the eighth annual National Asian & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. It is also the first ever National Hepatitis Testing Day. Given the heavy toll both epidemics have had on America’s Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities, it is fitting that these awareness campaigns will take place on the same day. |
May 17, 2012 On Thursday, May 10, the House of Representatives passed the Sequester Reconciliation Act of 2012 (H.R. 5652). Championed by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan and conservative House leadership, it would reduce the deficit on the backs of the nation's poor and uninsured by reducing or eliminating billions in funding for health care and nutritional aid, while brazenly dismissing any tax increases on even the nation’s wealthiest citizens. |
May 15, 2012 Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Blood Products Advisory Committee recommended approval of the first ever in-home rapid HIV test. The product – the OraQuick In-Home HIV Test – is manufactured by OraSure Technologies, Inc. and is the same device as the OraQuick Rapid Test, which is already approved for use in a broad range of health care settings and is the standard of care at most testing sites around the country. Its accuracy, ease, and efficiency have been repeatedly demonstrated in national studies. |

May 8, 2012 This story has nothing to do with work. I wrote it in tribute to my father who passed away last week. Like many gay men, I had a challenging relationship with my Dad. It was difficult because we liked very different things. But we both really tried. |
April 26, 2012 Last year Secretary Hillary Clinton called for the U.S. to demonstrate leadership and bring about "an AIDS free generation." On World AIDS Day 2011, President Obama announced a deepened U.S. commitment to fighting the pandemic, declaring "make no mistake, we are going to win this fight." |
April 16, 2012 At the 2011 USCA in Chicago, you may have noticed the unveiling of several new division names here at NMAC, including our technical assistance division. |
April 11, 2012 I am not usually an overly cautious man -- just look at the way I dress! However, the revised HIV Treatment Guidelines from the Department of Health and Human Services have given me pause. I find myself both cautiously optimistic, and honestly have some concerns. |
March 27, 2012 My father has a leaky heart valve. Due to his advanced age and other health issues, the doctors have no more options. We're bringing him home. We have hospice to manage his pain and family to comfort his soul. |
