Our State Policy Work
In November 2025, NMAC launched its State Policy Initiative to strengthen state-level advocacy and advance equitable HIV policy across the country. As the federal policy landscape continues to evolve, states have become the primary drivers of HIV-related policy implementation, shaping access to prevention, treatment, and supportive services.
Through this initiative, NMAC equips advocates, policymakers, and community leaders with timely policy analysis, resources, and opportunities for engagement to improve health outcomes for people living with and impacted by HIV.

Our State Policy Priorities
ADAP Sustainability & Medication Access
Strengthening AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs) nationwide by advocating for sustainable funding, protecting eligibility and benefits, and responding to state-level threats that jeopardize access to lifesaving HIV medications.
HIV Prevention & Care Access
Promoting equitable access to HIV prevention and treatment services, including PrEP, testing, and community-based care, while supporting policies that improve health outcomes and reduce disparities across communities.
Public Health Infrastructure & State Advocacy Capacity
Building stronger state-based advocacy infrastructure by expanding partnerships with legislative champions, health departments, and community organizations, and creating opportunities for people living with HIV and community advocates to shape policy decisions.
