PrEP for Me Campaign
Now launched from the Coalition for Justice and Equality Across Movements: A campaign conceptualized and executed by women of color for women of color.
PrEP For Me, for Black and Latina women, is a community health response to an unmet need for conversations, self-care, and body autonomy that allow us to lean into our best selves.
Top 5 PrEP Facts:
- Established: A daily pill that has been available since 2012, a long-acting injectable six times per year that has been available since 2023, and a new, twice-yearly long acting injectable that has been approved by theFDA in June 2025
- Effective: 99.9% proven effective at preventing HIV when taken as prescribed
- Essential: With Black women and Latina women getting HIV at rates higher than women of other races, knowing about prevention options is life-saving!
- Equitable: Despite PrEP being available for almost a decade, many Black and Latina women are not receiving this critical health information to make the right choices for their well-being.
- Easy: Like many women who choose from a variety of birth control options to avoid an unintended pregnancy, being on PrEP is an easy and surefire way to peace of mind and sexual freedom.
Welcome to PrEP for Me
The PrEP for Me campaign was born from the energy and passion of the Fall 2024 HBCU Liberation Tour, where we hit the road and visited six college campuses, registering students of color to vote and have their voices heard. Along the way, we discovered something powerful: engaging college students of color—especially as they step into adulthood—is about more than civic engagement. It’s also about helping them take ownership of their health and well-being.
That realization sparked something bigger.
As federal HIV prevention funding faces uncertainty, we knew we had to act. Awareness about PrEP, a proven tool for HIV prevention, is vital. But awareness alone isn’t enough—access must follow.
That’s why we created PrEP for Me, a campaign centered around education, empowerment, and equity—especially for young Black and Latina women on HBCU and HSI campuses. These young women are leaders, caretakers, dreamers—and they deserve healthcare that sees and supports them.
Why Now?
Amid threats to vital public health infrastructure and prevention funding, it’s never been more urgent to raise our voices. PrEP for Me is about showing up, speaking the truth, and spreading the word: PrEP is safe. It’s effective. And it’s for you.
What We Stand For
Our campaign is rooted in the theme of Growth and Power—a celebration of self-love, power, and visibility. “Growth” honors the journey of becoming: making decisions about your future, your body, and your health. “Power” invites the confidence to spark honest conversations we need to fight stigma and build trust.
Our Mission
PrEP for Me is here to:
- Raise awareness: Make PrEP known and visible as an HIV prevention option for young Black and Latina women.
- Bust myths: Tackle misinformation and stigma head-on through education, storytelling, and real talk.
- Uplift bodily autonomy: Affirm every woman’s right to know her options and choose what’s best for her.
- Normalize the conversation: HIV prevention and PrEP shouldn’t be taboo—they should be talked about openly in our dorm rooms, friend circles, and community spaces.
- Mobilize and empower: Equip student leaders and partners with the tools to advocate, educate, and share vital resources.
- Grow partnerships: Build on our HBCU Liberation Tour connections and expand collaborations with women’s health groups on campus and online.
This campaign is for all the young women navigating college, identity, and big decisions about the future. You deserve health care that respects you, protects you, and grows with you.
So let’s talk about it. Let’s learn together. Let’s shine.
