NMAC Board Member Evelyn Ullah Elected Co-Chair of UCHAPS Steering Committee

Will Provide Critical Leadership for Addressing Impact of HIV on Gay and Bisexual Men

Washington, DC – Today, the Urban Coalition of HIV/AIDS Prevention Services (UCHAPS) announced that Director of HIV Prevention Programs for Florida’s Department of Health in Broward County and long-time National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC) Board Member, Evelyn Ullah, was elected co-chair of the UCHAPS Steering Committee.  A representative advisory body responsible for initiating, evaluating and approving proposed and existing programs, the Steering Committee plays a pivotal role in advancing UCHAPS’ mission of reducing mortality and morbidity, as well as disparities in health outcomes and the incidence of new HIV infections.

“We are thrilled by Evelyn’s selection to co-chair this important committee,” said NMAC Executive Director Paul Kawata.  “Having worked in both Fort Lauderdale and Miami for many years – two of the most heavily impacted jurisdictions in the nation – Evelyn brings incredible insight into the challenges of reaching the most difficult to reach populations, particularly gay and bisexual men of color.  I have no doubt that her dedication and vast experience will prove an incredible asset to UCHAPS’ work, just as it has served NMAC for many years.  We wish her, her co-chair and UCHAPS the best of luck as they advance their important mission and offer all our sincerest congratulations.”
