The National Working Positive Coalition is presenting a pre-conference institute at the upcoming United States Conference on AIDS to bring together people interested in the role that employment and vocational rehabilitation may play in improving the financial and personal well-being of many individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Encouraged to join us are people living with HIV/AIDS, HIV service providers, vocational rehabilitation counselors, workforce development specialists, educators, advocates and others interested in learning more these issues and resources.

Positive Futures: HIV, Employment and Vocational Rehabilitation in 2008
addresses critical counseling, benefits, training and employment issues of people with HIV/AIDS (PWHA). In 2008, the need to reduce poverty, social isolation and marginalization of PWHA is imperative. This institute will help PWHA and service providers learn about existing employment services, how to overcome barriers to employment, and get connected to a national network of PWHA, service providers, and researchers committed to addressing the vocational needs of PWHA.

The National Working Positive Coalition is a coalition of individuals living with HIV, service providers, researchers, and advocates who are committed to improving the financial and personal wellbeing of individuals living with HIV and AIDS. To achieve this goal we (a) promote research to better understand the financial needs and complex challenges facing individuals with HIV; (b) promote the development and evaluation of effective practices in employment services and (c) advocate for work options and access to financial resources that are most consistent with the personal and health needs of individuals living with HIV.
