Opening Plenary Luncheon: Transgender People and HIV: Our Time Has Come!

The Opening Plenary Luncheon will open with the Native
American AIDS Project Drum, known as the NAAP Singers, the Native American AIDS
Project, the Bay Area American Indian Two Spirits, the Native American Health
Center, and Medicine Warriors/All Nations Singers. After the invocation, JoAnne
Keatley, Director of the UCSF Center of Excellence for Transgender HIV
Prevention will address the HIV epidemic within transgender communities. Transgender
activists Cecilia Chung, Bamby Salcedo, Earline Budd, and Yosenio Lewis will
then share personal stories, focusing on the impact that HIV has had on their
lives, families, and communities of color. Valerie Spencer will conclude
drawing from the speakers’ words to deliver a message of hope and
inspiration.
