Sustaining Organizational Ability and Resources (SOAR)

Regionally-Based Conference

When and Where Is the Regional Training Conferences?
The West-Coast Conference: San Francisco, CA on September on 16-17, 2009

What Should You Expect at the West-Coast Conference on Sustainability Strategies?
Two 2-day conferences are planned to give community and faith-based organizations a competitive edge in Risk Management, Effective Network Building, Financial Management, Fund Development, Program Development, and Leadership Development. The cutting-edge sessions focus on developing organizational sustainability. The new SOAR training series provides “state-of-art” knowledge in our selected capacity building categories for the nonprofits we serve. Based on time-tested strategies and tips for growing, developing, and sustaining nonprofits, the revised training packages offer important skills and abilities for community-based organizations to increase their efficiency and effectiveness.

Who Can Attend?
The two regional training conferences, under the SOAR Training Initiative, are exclusively for community-based organizations (CBOs) directly and indirectly funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), State Health Departments and their funded CBOs, and Key Stakeholders providing HIV/AIDS services to African-Americans in the United States.

What Specific Deadlines Have Been Set?
Click here to download the application. Return registrations by fax at (202) 483-4568. We are not accepting “call in” telephone registrations. A completed Registration Form is required for official acceptance and participation. Seating for the conference covering two (2) days of training will be limited to the first 50 registrants. Registration will therefore be based on a “first-come-first-serve” basis and acceptance of registration requests may be denied before the deadlines of submitting registration forms. Thus, organizations are encouraged to register before the deadlines to secure attendance at these special events. Once occupancy goals are met, we will not be able to accept any more registrations if they arrive before the deadlines.

Will Assistance Be Available?
Expenses and allowances will be provided on a limited basis and according to eligibility criteria determined from reviewing completed applications. Air, train, and bus travel will not be covered under expenses and allowances.  However, per diem will be covered based on government city rates, hotel and garage parking, shuttle or taxis travel to and from the event, car travel at .55 cents per mile (Mapquest documentation required) or up to $100 dollars round trip car travel.

Reimbursements for expenses require receipts if payments are expected, except for per diem where receipts are not required. Invoices will be paid within 30 business days of receipt of them.  Only one participant per organization or state department official or CBO referral will be eligible to attend the special 2-day regional conferences.  However, based on available seating, an additional one or two participant from the same organization or state agency may attend on a “stand-by” basis.

Click here for updates on the training and room accommodations or participants can call for more details.
