The National Minority AIDS Council presents the Recruitment
and Retention into Care Program. The program is a national training designed to
develop, improve and expand comprehensive services targeting communities
severely impacted by HIV/AIDS.
The goal of the program is to improve access, quality of
care and coordination of health care services for people living with HIV/AIDS
who are multiply diagnosed, located in or around rural areas and/or racial
ethnic minorities.
Multiply
Diagnosed Persons with HIV: People who are doubly or triply diagnosed
(HIV/AIDS, alcohol and other drug addiction, mental health and/or homelessness)
make up a larger segment of persons with needs and are often the most difficult
to recruit and retain in primary medical care.
Rural
Persons with HIV: As the epidemic continues to spread across the nation, there
are significant challenges in bringing appropriate care to persons with HIV in
rural areas of the U.S.
Racial
and Ethnic Minorities with HIV: HIV/AIDS continues to have a devastating impact
on underserved racial/ethnic minority populations and subpopulations in the U.S.
The Recruitment and Retention into Care program is funded by
the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau. The
project is conducted by the National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC).
