Puerto Rico

NMAC is dedicated to providing culturally and linguistically competent capacity building assistance to faith- and community-based organizations (F/CBOs) delivering much needed HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care services in Puerto Rico.

Examples of NMAC’s recent work in Puerto Rico include Conferencia Sobre HIV: En Alianza Para Un Mejor Servicio, this past March 12-14, in San Juan. The meeting brought F/CBOs, Puerto Rico health officials and federal government agency  representatives together for two days of meetings. Dr. Kevin Fenton, Director of CDC's National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention, gave the keynote address. Working with the Puerto Rico HD, the Office of AIDS Research and the National Library of Medicine, we distributed computer systems, complete with MS Office Standard and Internet access, and provided extensive online database and computer hardware training, to 75 CBOs on the Island, facilitating their ability to create a communication network with each other, the Puerto Rico HD, federal entities and other AIDS organizations worldwide.

NMAC also has provided support to Puerto Rico agencies participating in the April 2009 AIDSWatch activities.
