Prison Initiative
HIV/AIDS and
incarceration have become interrelated over the years, and the need for service
providers and correctional staff to implement programs and effective
interventions for prisoners and ex-offenders living with HIV/AIDS is critical. NMAC's Prison Initiative was initiated as a response to an
often-overlooked facet of the HIV/AIDS epidemic--the rising rate of HIV/AIDS in
United States
correctional facilities.
The Prison Initiative is a project of NMAC, which helps community and
faith-based organizations, correctional facilities and health departments
evaluate, improve and implement effective discharge planning for HIV positive
inmates and former inmates.
The Prison Initiative offers numerous publications with comprehensive
programmatic and policy information around HIV/AIDS and correctional facilities
in the United States.
