NMAC Honors the 2010 National  Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day this February 7th February 4, 2010 ~ Washington, DC ~ The National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC) will honor the tenth annual National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on February 7th . Held during Black History Month, the special HIV/AIDS observance day serves as a “national HIV testing and treatment community mobilization initiative designed to increase the awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment among Blacks in the United States and Diaspora.”

CDC Reports High Native American/Alaska Native Mortality from H1N1 A recently published CDC study shows that Native Americans and Alaska Natives are four times more likely to die from H1N1 than members of other racial and ethnic groups. This is of particular concern for Native American and Alaska Native adults and adolescents living with HIV, since people living with HIV may experience more severe complications from seasonal influenza and, quite possibly, H1N1 infection.

Every 9 and Half Minutes, Someone in the U.S. Is Infected with HIV White House, HHS and CDC officials announced a new five-year national communication campaign, Act Against AIDS, highlighting the alarming statistic that someone is infected with HIV every 9 and half minutes in this country. It aims to combat complacency about the HIV/AIDS crisis in the United States.
