2009 United
States Conference on AIDS Updates
San Francisco, CA * October 29-31
* Hilton San Francisco
Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey: “The 2009
United States Conference on AIDS (USCA) What’s Your Take?” We had over 1,200
people respond from February 28 to March 9 a new record for the agency! You may
read the
survey results online here or download
it as a PDF.
As you know, everyone who participated in
the survey was entered in a drawing for a free USCA registration. This year’s
winner was Keri Adams, of Planned Parenthood, in Nashville, TN. We will be in
touch with you soon!
Most important, we want you to know that we heard your concerns
loud and clear. Based on your input, we are re-vamping the 2009 USCA program to
better serve your needs. USCA will be a place where you and your colleagues can
meet and exchange ideas about surviving these difficult financial
times.
The survey results also indicated that you wanted
more advanced skills building workshops geared to HIV/AIDS professionals;
sessions on how organizations can navigate fiscal challenges; and discussion
groups on working with special populations, including Native Americans and rural
areas. In addition to these workshops, we hope to offer:
- A job fair
- Meetings with federal officials and major funders
- Additional continuing education credit courses and
offerings
To help defray the cost of attending USCA, we will be offering
conference specials every month until June. This month, we are offering a
special hotel room rate of $152 per night (plus taxes) to the first 100 USCA
registrants. That room rate, coupled with the early bird registration cost, adds
up to big savings.
We also
are increasing the number of scholarships available, and are introducing a full
scholarship (Option C), which will include compliementary conference
registration, 4 nights of hotel accommodations and airfare.
To make these specials possible, we will be distributing all
future USCA correspondence via e-mail, as well as on our website and 2009 USCA
and NMAC Facebook groups, as many of you have requested.
You also can look for fun “commercials”
promoting USCA deals and sessions over the next few months on our YouTube
channel, available at www.youtube.com/commnmac. These are
being produced free of charge, and we hope you will take a moment to check them
out.
In the pages
that follow, you will see the results of the survey. Please do not hesitate to
contact us if you have any questions or additional ideas, at (202) 483-NMAC
(6622) or info@nmac.org.
Yours in the Struggle,
Paul A. Kawata
Executive Director
