Community Participation Research Targeting the Medically Underserved (R01)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) issues this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) with a special review to solicit research project  grant applications that propose research on health promotion, disease prevention, and health disparities that is jointly conducted by communities and researchers and targets medically underserved areas and medically underserved populations.  This focus will allow studies to assess the nature and scope of health problems in underserved communities, formulate hypotheses about the relationship of community dynamics and health problems as they relate to underrepresented populations, design targeted interventions aimed at addressing health disparities in specified communities and specific populations, and track the efficacy of outreach efforts.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) issues this Funding Opportunity Announcement with a special review to solicit exploratory/developmental grant applications that propose research on health promotion, disease prevention, and health disparities that is jointly conducted by communities and researchers and targets medically underserved areas and medically underserved populations.  The process of scientific inquiry is such that community members, persons affected by the health condition, disability or issue under study, or other key stakeholders in the community's health have the opportunity to be full participants in each phase of the work.

$2.7 Million is Available for Grants to Expand Substance Abuse Treatment in Adult Criminal Justice Populations

This program is designed to address gaps in substance abuse treatment services for adults involved with the criminal justice system.  Grant funds will be used to expand and or/enhance the community’s ability to provide a comprehensive, integrated, and community-based response to a targeted, well-documented substance abuse treatment capacity problem.  The program is also designed to improve the quality and intensity of services provided for the target population.

Integrative Prevention Research for Alcohol Users At-Risk for HIV/AIDS (RO1) Grant

This FOA issued by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institutes of Health, encourages Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/ organizations that propose to integrate basic behavioral research and intervention research for the prevention of alcohol-related HIV/AIDS risk.

Initiatives to Educate State Officials and Policy Makers about Priority Public Health Issues Related to the Prevention and Control of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)

The purpose of the program is to fund national organizations to provide education on accurate, comprehensive, and timely public health information for state Governors, legislatures, policy makers, and those involved in state efforts to protect the public health through targeted meetings, workshops, conferences, educational materials, and other communication channels, with a focus on educating these sectors about public health policy matters. The proposed program will address the current and emerging STD and HIV/AIDS prevention, and potentially viral hepatitis and tuberculosis prevention, concerns of states including barriers to effective public health. The proposed program may also be expanded to include adolescent and school health and reproductive health issues of concern to states including barriers to effective public health.

Alcohol Research Education Project Grants

Broad ranges of educational approaches are included within the context of this FOA. Individual applications are expected to focus on the alcohol education area of Health Professions Education. This area of activity includes projects designed to support the science of dissemination of new knowledge acquired through alcohol research to a wide array of health professionals, both individuals currently practicing their professions and those in training for health professions.

SAMHSA Accepting Applications for $10 Million in Grants to Expand and Strengthen Treatment Services for Persons Who Are Homeless

The purpose of this program is to expand and strengthen treatment services for persons who are homeless (including those who are chronically homeless) and who also have substance use disorders, mental disorders, or co-occurring substance use and mental disorders. Domestic public and private nonprofit entities are eligible to apply.

William T. Grant Foundation Program

The William T. Grant Foundation is pleased to announce the release of the 2008-2009 William T. Grant Scholars Program Brochure. The Scholars Program funds promising early-career researchers from diverse disciplines. It supports the professional development of early-career scholars who have demonstrated success in conducting high-quality research and who are seeking to further develop their skills and research. Studies from William T. Grant Scholars contribute to theory, policy, and practice on the settings of young people ages 8 to 25.

Non-injection Drug Abuse and HIV/AIDS

This FOA issued by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institutes of Health (NIH), encourages drug abuse research that elucidates the contribution of non-injection drug abuse to the acquisition and/or transmission and/or disease progression of HIV/AIDS.

Structural Interventions, Alcohol Use, and Risk of HIV/AIDS (R03)

This FOA issued by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), National Institutes of Health, solicits applications from institutions/ organizations that propose to investigate the effectiveness of structural interventions that reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission by changing the environment of alcohol use. Although a variety of structural and environmental interventions have been employed successfully to reduce other drinking-related problems, there has been little research that extends such efforts into the realm of HIV/AIDS risk reduction.

Public Health Conference Support Program (Modification 8)

The Public Health Conference Support Program (Modification 8) is the latest modification to the Public Health Conference Support Program, which provides assistance to organizations generally recognized as demonstrating a need for information to protect the public from health effects of exposure to hazardous substances.

 

Only conferences planned for May 1, 2007 through September 30, 2010 are eligible to apply under this announcement. Applications are due March 8, 2009.

 


AIDS International Training and Research Program (D43)

This FOA invites applications from eligible institutions for innovative, collaborative research training programs that would contribute to the long-term goal of building sustainable research capacity in HIV-related conditions at institutions in low and middle income countries.


The amount and duration of awards will vary, and there are multiple rolling deadlines for applications; please see the grant announcement for details. 

 


HIV Treatment Adherence Research (R01) (R03) (R21) (R34)

This FOA issued by the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute on Drug Abuse, and National Institute of Nursing Research invites grant applications from applicant organizations to advance scientific research and intervention regarding HIV treatment adherence. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism and runs in parallel with FOAs of similar scientific scope: PA-07-339, which solicits applications under the Small Research Grant (R03) mechanism; PA-07-340, which solicits applications under the Exploratory/Developmental (R21) mechanism; and PAR-07-341, which solicits applications under the Exploratory Grants for Mental Health Interventions and Services (R34) mechanism.

Health Research with Diverse Populations

The purpose of this FOA is to invite grant applications for biological, behavioral, social, addictive, and mental health research related to the health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and other diverse populations. Proposed research should be appropriate for the missions of one or more of the participating Institutes.
