Ms. Evelyn Ullah, BSN, MSW, Director, Office of HIV/AIDS/TB,
Miami-Dade County Health Department, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree
in Nursing and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the State University of New
York at Stony Brook.
Ms. Ullah holds more than twenty-five years experience in
the design and direction of hospital based maternal and child health programs,
HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment initiatives and health education curricula. Ms.
Ullah’s additional Public Health experience is developing and administering
public education and high risk screening programs for minority
populations. Her professional experience includes publishing articles in
the areas of chemical dependency and social work. She is also a Board
Member of the National Minority AIDS Council and served on the Institute
Medicine Liaison Panel for HIV Prevention Strategies in the United States. Ms.
Ullah is the recipient of an award from Dr. David Satcher, Surgeon General for
outstanding support and participation in the Crisis Response Team Initiative,
the Humanitarian Award from the United Foundation for AIDS, the South Florida
AIDS Network Leadership Award, the Robert Galante Community Service Award and
most recently the 2007 Red Ribbon Excellence Award, “Guiding Light” Award for
Leadership. Additionally, Ms. Ullah is accredited with several progressive
prevention initiatives in Florida
“AMIGAS, “Ride The Bus”, "Stop The Silence” campaigns. Her multi-cultural experience
has lead her to lecture on a variety of topics at the local, state and national
level.
Ms. Ullah began working in HIV/AIDS in 1982 while employed
at Lincoln Hospital
in the Bronx, New York. She
has had four family members who have died from AIDS.
Ms. Ullah is the proud mother of two beautiful daughters and
grandmother of three wonderful grandsons. She is a gracious and humble
public health professional.
