Mark your calendars for NMAC's second Stakeholder
Call, set for Friday, May 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.
EST, featuring guest speaker Dr. Kevin Fenton, Director of the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for
HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). He will be
discussing the CDC's new HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, Act Against AIDS.

the large number of participants expected, the call is not planned to be an open
forum. You may submit your questions for Dr. Fenton in advance, however, via

NMAC has announced new dates for its SOAR training-of-trainers (TOT)
series. These three day
training session certify professional trainers to deliver courses in Strategic
Planning, Human Resources, Fund Development and Proposal Writing, Board
Development, Financial Management and Budget Basics, and Coalition Building to
Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) providing HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment
services throughout the United States.

A Kaiser Family Foundation survey revealed that Americans’
sense of urgency about HIV/AIDS as a national health problem has fallen
dramatically and their concern about HIV as a personal risk has also declined,
even among some groups at higher risk. Read more about this important survey on

June 15, 2009 is last day to submit
proposals to the MAC AIDS
Fund's Housing Community Grants program.
A call for entries has been announced for
the REYATAZ® (atazanavir sulfate)
“Fight HIV Your Way” Contest for photographs with essays
or videos that express the individual fight against HIV/AIDS of people who are
infected with or affected by the disease. The goal of the contest is to help
raise awareness about HIV/AIDS among the general public and inspire people
impacted by the disease to continue their fight. Through May 15,
2009, individuals ages 18 and older can submit entries online at
fightHIVyourway.com or mail in their entries.
An expert panel of judges will evaluate the contest entries based on the
impact of the photographs’ or videos’ visual or verbal expression of how to
fight HIV, creativity, originality and overall artistic quality. Contest judges
include HIV community advocate Frank Oldham, artist and photographer David
Martinez, and POZ magazine
editor-in-chief Regan Hofmann.
Final selection of the two Grand Prize
Winners - one video and one photograph - will be determined by the public via
online voting. The entries of the Grand Prize Winners and 90 additional Award of
Distinction winners will be showcased in a public exhibit in Union Square, San Francisco, from Oct. 27-29, 2009.
The 2009 National HIV Prevention
Conference, set for
August 23-26, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, in Atlanta, GA, has announced a call for
late breaker abstracts. Submissions are being accepted now until May 15, 2009. For

The meeting also invites
organizations to display materials in the NGO Village, set for
August 24,
2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. To be considered, you must be
registered for the conference and submit the "NGO Table Reservation Form" by
July 31,
2009, along with proof of nonprofit status. Click here for more

The National Library of Medicine Announces HIV/AIDS Community
Information Outreach Projects 2009 (NLM-09-078/SES)
The National Library of Medicine
(NLM) is pleased to
announce the solicitation of quotations from organizations and libraries to
design and conduct projects that will improve access to HIV/AIDS related health
information for patients, the affected community, and their caregivers.

Quotations are due to
NLM on Monday, June 1, 2009.
Projects must involve one or more of the following information access
categories: information retrieval; skills development; state-of-the-art
resources; resource development; and document access. Emphasis is placed upon
the following types of organizations or arrangements for developing these
programs:
* Community-based organizations (CBOs) or patient advocacy
groups currently providing HIV/AIDS-related serves to the affected
community
* Public libraries serving communities in the provision of
HIV/AIDS-related information and resources
* Health departments or other
local, municipal, or state agencies working to improve public health
*
Faith-based organizations currently providing HIV/AIDS-related services
*
Multi-type consortia of the above-listed organizations that may be in existence
or formed specifically for this project.
Standard Awards are offered for
up to $60,000; Express Awards are offered for up to $10,000. Visit details for

National American Indian AIDS Summit 2009, July 14-15, in Rochester, NY
The Liberty Research Group, an all volunteer agency advocating for
those individuals living with HIV/AIDS from all segments of communities of color
and those less served in low-income communities throughout the U.S.A., is proud
to announce the National
American Indian AIDS Summit 2009, set for
July
14-15, in Rochester, NY, at the
Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The theme of this year's meeting
is "Keeping the Promise....United We Stand
at the Crossroads." The conference has issued a call for abstracts
for those who wish to present workshops and roundtable discussions. The deadline
for submissions is May 15, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. EST. To obtain a

Pedro Comes to DVD June 30th
On June 30, Wolfe Video will release the biopic, Pedro, written by Oscar-winning
Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance
Black, which chronicles
the life of openly gay and HIV-positive activist Pedro Zamora, who captured the
hearts of millions on the San
Francisco edition of MTV's The Real World, in
1994.
The film
premiered this past April 1 on MTV, mtvU, LOGO and MTV Tr3s. For more
